Production Blog Post 2/25

After completing pre-production at the end of the second marking period and finishing in class presentations, I went forward with the production stage of my project. The following presented work is what I have accomplished: Production Day #1 The first day of filming was scheduled for February 14th as it was a day off from school. As I did not have a final list of actors for when I had created my pre-production blog post, I made sure to decide upon my actors and make sure that their schedules worked with mine, prior to filming. The first day of filming, all my actors arrived at the time I requested them to show up. Unlike my last project, I am acting within this film, so I employed the help of Justin Creelman to work the camera for me. This scene was supposed to be set within an old fashioned western store front. Since western store fronts are a tough commodity in central Pennsylvania, we filmed within the shed in my backyard. The process of filming went fairly well. Both of my acto

Investigation 2/23: Automated Dialog Replacement (ADR) Investigation

Looking back on the audio I have recorded for my next project, I have some fears that some of it might not be usable in my next film. If there is a scenario that a clip wouldn't be able to be used, I would have to find some way in order to correct this error. This led me to investigate the process of Automated Dialog Replacement (ADR). ADR And How It Affects A Film  Automated Dialog Replacement is the process of re-recording spoken lines of dialogue following the original recording of a scene. Through this process, a better/cleaner recording can be created, which helps to improve the original quality of the scene. While ADR can significantly improve a scene, if done improperly, the audience could possibly notice that the characters within the scene are not actually speaking the audio that is being heard. An example of bad ADR can be seen in this scene from The Great Gatsby. In this scene, Leonardo DiCaprio's mouth does not appear to match the words that he is saying as well

Investigation 2/9: Aspect Ratio Transition

One of the ideas that I have for my next film involves a transition that switches between aspect ratios. The context of the transition involves the first scene with it's 4:3 aspect ratio to slowly zoom out to reveal the second scene which uses a 16:9 aspect ratio. Effect In Movies The changing of aspect ratios during the middle of a film is not entirely uncommon. The choice of aspect ratio can impact a scene and what it is trying to portray. The first example I have included is from the The Hunger Games: Catching Fire . In this clip, as the elevator in the scene rises up, the aspect ratio expands to fill the whole screen. This effect results in the audience feeling more engaged in the new surrounding of the next scene. The second example I have included is from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World . The first clip in this example has the aspect ratio shrink smaller in order to create a claustrophobic effect within the dream sequence. The aspect ratio then grows larger and returns to nor

MP 2 Reflections

Now that we have finally completed presentations on the work completed over the second marking period, I am able to look over the work that everyone has created and determine what I can take away from it. Sean's Work Since Sean mainly likes to focus on writing, it was refreshing to watch a film that he made. While he had originally planned out his production to be more detailed, he had ended up not following his plan as much. Despite not following his plan, he still managed to create an engaging film. His story was interesting and was created without any spoken dialogue. Sean's photography was also nice to look at and I really enjoyed his use of color within some of his images. Kristina's Work Along with a few examples of photography, Kristina showed off two different films that she had produced. The first of which was a documentary style film about her friend Maya and her struggles with Leukemia and the second was a vlog style video about cooking with her fri
