Investigation 11/24: What Makes A Good Character

Following the completion of my first project, I am beginning to start thinking about what I would like to do for my next project. While at this point I am not exactly sure what I am planning on doing, I know that I want to focus on writing a story with deep characters. To do this, I chose to look at memorable characters from other films and what I can do to write a good character. Memorable Characters In Film Darth Vader Darth Vader is likely one of the most recognizable characters within film and media in general. Being present throughout each Star Wars movie of the original and prequel trilogies, Vader created a lasting impact as the audience followed his character. We see how he begins as a young boy who grows into an emotional adult who falls down a dark path which ends with his redemption in the eyes of his son. Vader as a character is seen by the audience as exciting each time he appears on screen while also creating wonder in what he will do next in each scene. ( Link To I

Post Production Blog Post 11/22

After completing production, I advanced to the post-production stage of my project. The following is what I accomplished as well as my final product: Editing The process of editing went fairly smoothly for me. I began by laying out all of my clips within the timeline in order. Next, I added in all the audio clips I had recorded using my external audio recorder and synced them up which each clips original audio. Within my timeline, there were a few spots without any footage. This is when I had realized that I had forgotten to shoot B-Roll for these portions. After taking time and recording footage for these segments, I inserted them into the timeline and continued editing. Next, I watched over what I had completed so far and took note of how I wanted my narration to sound over each section. I recorded a first copy of my narration and inserted it into the film. This first copy had multiple errors which I went back and corrected for my final copy of the narration. The final steps of

Investigation 11/17: Use Of Music In Film

The use of music within film plays a critical role when working to create the vision set out by the production team. Proper use of music can enhance and determine the way the film is perceived by audiences. On the contrary, improper use of music can disrupt the viewing experience of the film as well as establish an undesired mood for the film. Tone And Mood Determined By Music While there are multiple different concepts within film that can determine and contribute to tone and mood, the use of music is one concept that contributes on a much larger scale. With music being present over the course of the majority of a film, it can likely impacts the tone and mood the most out of any other concepts. The choice in music can completely adjust the tone and mood of what is being shown on screen. This video created by YouTube user shelley craig shows a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean with different music layer over top of it. The original score emanates a very jubilant feeling, demonst

MP 1 Reflections

After observing presentations based on what everyone had accomplished over the first marking period, I am able to reflect on everyone's work and determine what I can learn from it. Dylan's Work Dylan's presentation showed off his progress on his documentary. His documentary follows the football team throughout the season, including interviews with coaches and players. I found it very interesting to observe the progress of a long term project such as this. It was also interesting to observe how one can go into a project without a fully planned out plan and still end up with a great looking project so far, as shown in his first five minutes. Auburn's Work Similar to Dylan, Auburn presented her progress on her documentary which is focused on the military. From the introduction shown, Auburn's documentary follows the fairly standard documentary format. This format includes multiple interviews with related footage located on top of it. Overall, the work Auburn

Investigation 11/3: Color In Film

Color is an important concept to make use of within film. A filmmaker can incorporate color into their work in order to establish a desired tone within a scene or over the course of the entire work. This permits the audience to think deeper thoughts and feel deeper feelings about the film. I have chosen to investigate color in order to be able to invoke feeling within the audience as well as create visually interesting scenes. Emotional Use Of Color It is commonly accepted that particular colors can evoke certain feelings within humans. With this knowledge, artists work to incorporate color into their art with the intention of making their audience feel in their desired way. Logos, films, paintings, and photographs are all examples of things artists have manipulated color within to influence their audience. While each color can be debated to evoke a particular set of emotions, most colors have an accepted group of emotions in which they appeal to. This image showcases a selection o
