Inglourious Basterds Review

What is a Spaghetti Western: Spaghetti Western is a sub-genre of the Western Genre which originally formed in the 1960's. Spaghetti Westerns are typically directed by an Italian with actors comprising of Germans, Italians, Spaniards, and Americans. Films that are considered to be apart of the Spaghetti Western sub-genre typically have less dialogue while focusing more on action. The action in the films are overly violent in comparison to other Western films which could cause censorship issues.  Why did Tarantino use this genre for a WWII Film: A possible reason as to why Tarantino chose Inglourious Basterds to be a Spaghetti Western rather than a war film could be for the film to be focused more of character interaction than the large scale violence seen in war films. In Inglourious Basterds, the audience does get to experience the second World War through the words and actions of real people rather than soldiers fighting in a war. Violence is still included at points...

Critique Reflection

(Submitted on 11/8/18 since I was sick) For our recreation of the scene from High School Musical, I felt that our process of recreating what was present in the actual scene was one of the better things we did for our project. When comparing our scene to the original, I feel that our shots were lined up very closely to what was originally present. As for what I feel I need to improve on, the main thing would be preparation. There were many points that we should've been more prepared which can be seen in the final film. Since we weren't prepared, some of our shots weren't close to what was seen in the original and some audio issues were present that could've been avoided if we had taken time to prepare before shooting. My strengths for this assignment would probably be my knowledge of the scene and trying to plan by day for what we needed to do. The weakness that I had was not being able manage my group as well as I felt I could. This prevented us from getting work d...

Genre Selection

Out of all the genres we learned about through the presentations during class, the two genres that stuck with me the best were the genres of Comedy and Action. The reasons why these two stuck with me the most would be that with Comedy, the creator gets to make not only the audience laugh but themselves as well and Action allows the creator to express the intensity of a scene in ways that make it feel unreal in comparison to real life. As for which genre I would be interested in filming a short for, I would probably lean more towards Action. My reason why would be that while I do enjoy both, Comedy is a difficult skill to master. The genre that I prefer overall however, I would say would be Comedy. I'm most likely drawn to Comedy the most as it's the one genre that most people can agree is enjoyable since most people do enjoy a good laugh. Comedy always seems to make me and others feel happy as if the humor is good then it makes the audience laugh and sometimes even, the humor ...

Who's Michael Crawford? (Reverse Engineering Project)

Who's Michael Crawford? (Recreation) Evidence of Role (Actor): For my role as an actor for the project I was required to memorize my lines in the script provided to me by the script writer in order to recite them during filming. I also analyzed how the real actor said his lines and how he acted during the scene. Lastly, I assembled a costume that somewhat resembled what was worn in the movie scene. The Process of Filming: The project started with us first determining a clip we could reproduce, followed by us assigning roles in the production process. Then we gathered all the required paper work for the project while scouting out the location we would film in. Once this was completed, we were ready to begin filming. We started by recreating the first portion of our selected clip. We accomplished this by having our actors read their lines and move down the library aisle as seen in the clip, while the sound engineer held a boom pole above the actors to capture a clearer ...

Themes in Conceptual Film

Out of all the themes described in the document "Themes in Art", the theme that personally speaks to me the most would have to be Politics and the Social Order. Politics and social classes are a important part of our daily lives which allows viewers to relate to films with this theme. Using this theme allows the filmmaker to address political or social issues with their own creative thoughts. It's in the filmmaker's thoughts that the viewer can see what the world around them could be like in the the film were a reality. This can influence the viewer to not only see the film as a story being told but also as a commentary of the world at the time. Other than Politics and the Social Order, the second most appealing theme to me would most likely be the theme of the Sacred Realm. The reason that I believe this theme is so appealing would be because the idea of a higher being or a sacred realm is largely embedded into our lives and culture. Since this thought is up to o...
